Choosing Someone Reliable

Because choosing a second shooter is supposed to make your job a little easier, you want to make sure that you find someone reliable. The last thing you want to get is a call from your second shooter saying, “Oh hey, I’ll be about two hours late.”

remember.eps As you look for someone to hire for the job, keep an eye out for people who are responsible, friendly, punctual, and easy to work with. If you’re hiring someone you don’t already know, you may even want to ask for professional or personal references, just to make sure the person you hire is a good fit for you.

To find a second shooter, consider asking other photographers you know who they’ve used in the past, or you can even mention that you’re looking to hire on your Twitter and Facebook pages. When you receive referrals or responses, check out the prospective hires’ portfolios on their websites to make sure that they have some experience with photography. Note that they don’t necessarily need wedding photography experience (because that’s probably what they’re trying to gain through second shooting), but hiring someone who knows how to use a camera is a must.
