Have you ever dreamed that you’ve forgotten something important and you wake up in a state of panic? Like a dream where you show up to an interview in your pajamas or go to school for a test and realize you forgot to study? When I first began shooting weddings, the weeks leading up to each event were riddled with such dreams, only much worse! I’d arrive at a wedding only to find that I’d left my camera at home, or find that my memory cards were full and my batteries were almost dead. It was always such a relief to open my eyes and realize that it was just a dream.

Whether it was because of those dreams or because I’m a chronic list-maker to begin with, I started creating a detailed to-do list before each wedding to ensure that I was as prepared as possible when the day arrived. In this chapter I help you avoid showing up at your first gig with a dead battery by giving you an example of a to-do list, along with specific ways you should check your gear and mentally prepare for all the segments of a wedding day.
