In this section we will look at what transforms are and why they are of interest. We will then use the previous discussion on orthogonality and quadrature to develop some useful transforms and their applications. First, we will define some terms used in this chapter. A transform is a procedure, equation, or algorithm that changes one group of data into another group of data.
