This book was written to help the amateur or mid-level photographer improve their portrait photography skills. With enough information to help the amateur turn their hobby into a profession, this book is aimed at people looking to attain the next level in portrait photography.

Part I of the book, "Understanding Digital Photography," answers your questions about trends and portrait photography styles; what camera equipment you will need; and not only what lighting equipment will help you achieve your goals but also how to use it in portrait scenarios. From lens crop factors to choosing between continuous and strobe lighting, the first section covers the things you will need to know to set yourself up to take excellent portrait photographs every time.

Part II, "Posing and Composing," covers composition, posing, and handling challenges. From standard poses and lighting setups to more unusual or creative posing techniques, you can learn how to put the model(s) in the right place inside the photograph and show them to best advantage. This section also covers formal (standard) poses as well as head shots and body shots and even provides information on how to compose and pose groups, children, and pets.
