So, when you went to bed last night, your computer was fine, but when you turned it on this morning, something’s wrong. Wrong could be anything from “it doesn’t work at all” to “it seems a little slower.”

The annoying part about computer problems is that the computer can’t usually tell you where it hurts — well, not directly anyway. Your computer can’t say to you, “Ya know, that new driver you installed for your mouse, it just isn’t setting well with me” or “I think that last email attachment you opened gave me a virus.”

Although computers aren’t very communicative about their problems, they are at least pretty consistent. The same bad things happen to a lot of computers. In this chapter, I run down ten things that I’ve seen a lot of in my years of work with computers, and tell you what to do about them. ...
