K.S. Thyagarajan has produced a comprehensive treatment of digital image processing of considerable value for most of the current applications of interest involving both still and video acquisition, storage, and transmission. He presents and elucidates the principal algorithms and techniques, many of which have developed and evolved considerably since the publication of previous texts on this subject well over a decade ago.

After an introductory chapter followed by a tutorial chapter on two-dimensional digital filtering, three more chapters are devoted successively to the physiology of visual perception, image acquisition, and image enhancement.
