EDITORIAL PREPARATION AND THE TELECINE PROCESS

In this chapter, we discuss new technology used to redefine the methods of a digital filmmaking laboratory.

Once the shoot is finished, original camera negative is sent to the lab for developing. The negative is then printed to create a workprint. There are two types: one-lite and color-corrected workprints. A one-lite workprint is based on a set of timing lights predetermined by the DP and the lab, and it takes into account the emulsion and exposure of the negative. Any type of push or pull in either the exposure or developing stages will affect the look. A push during exposure varies the amount of light that strikes the negative relative to the index rating of the emulsion. ...
