Status (update) anxiety: social networking, Facebook and community

Abstract:

Facebook remains at the top of social networking sites, continually being challenged by other options such as Google +. Yet when social networking spills into oversharing, the simple act of constructing a status update can have an impact on family, friends, reputations and employment. This chapter probes the anxiety that can – and often should – emerge through the act of updating Facebook status.
