Recording with a Jukebox Program

Media Jukebox and Musicmatch can record audio either to uncompressed WAV files or to compressed formats such as MP3 and WMA. Keep in mind that neither program includes level meters, editing capabilities, or waveform views, although Media Jukebox does include a separate editing program that can be accessed through its Tools menu. Following are instructions for recording audio with each program. As mentioned earlier, as of Version 4.6, iTunes does not have recording capability.

Media Jukebox

Media Jukebox’s recording feature is fairly advanced compared to Musicmatch’s recorder. To record audio in Media Jukebox, select Settings Options, then scroll down and click the “Recorder Settings” icon. Choose the source from the “Recording Source” drop-down box. When using a jukebox program to record from an analog source, you should set the recording source to “Line-In” for a tape deck or turntable or to “Mic” for recording through a microphone.

You also need to select the same source in the Recording Control screen of the Windows Volume Control program. Follow the instructions for using the Windows volume control from earlier in this chapter.

Set your recording level, either by moving the slider manually or by allowing the program to set it automatically (recommended). To set the level automatically, click the “Auto” button, then begin playing your source at a typical loud section. Now click “Start Test.” Media Jukebox will analyze the audio for approximately ...
