Different Aims of Audio Editing

Corrective Editing versus Creative Editing

Each of the editing processes described in this book will fall into one (or more) of three categories: corrective editing, creative editing, or restorative editing. Sometimes the lines between the three will be very blurred, and some techniques are equally applicable to multiple areas. In fact, it is arguable that restorative editing is largely a combination of a corrective and creative process. I agree with this to some extent, but the techniques used in audio restoration are often quite specific, so I have, for the sake of clarity, chosen to separate them in this book.
