When Tim Berners-Lee created the foundations of the World Wide Web in the early 1990s, he emphasized the importance of its inclusiveness and universality. Accessibility to all people regardless of disability is a fundamental part of this vision.
For over a decade, the W3C has been developing protocols to help make the web as accessible as possible, and has included accessibility factors in specifications for standards such as HTML and CSS. Simultaneously, legislative bodies around the world have implemented accessibility laws and regulations that affect the web as well as the physical environment, and which often directly reference these W3C specifications.
