DES and RSA

DES and RSA are actually algorithms rather than standards. However, because the vast majority of security standards are based on one or both of these algorithms, they are briefly mentioned here to provide you with a complete understanding of how the standards work. For example, Secure Electronic Transactions (SET), a method for encrypting credit card information, uses DES as its default symmetric key algorithm, and the RSA asymmetric key algorithms for digital signatures and digital envelopes.
