I worked on a project for a client who had three separate Web sites, and each one needed to cross-link to pages in the others in an intelligent way. Each site maintained separate metadata systems, although they were implemented on the same servers.

Because we designed these systems from the ground up, we were able to dictate a common location policy for geographic information.

We wanted to connect together cinemas from the film listings service with restaurants in the food web site’s metadata system. This would provide a way to book a whole evening out, have a meal, and then watch a movie (or vice versa). ...
