Power Tools

Leverage

Building workflow components is easier with tools that are more powerful. Think of these as power tools. If you want to do something complex with text, then Perl and Python are great tools that give you more leverage than using shell scripts or writing in ANSI-standard C. In fact, Perl is a combination of the capabilities of the Bourne shell and the C language. If you are familiar with either Bourne shell or C, then you will find the transition to Perl comes quite easily.

Perl and other power tools can be built into web servers, which makes it easy to build distributed workflows. If you add a hypertext preprocessor (PHP) to the mix, then you can build web pages that dynamically query the internals of the remote system ...
