Limiting Your Problems

When you build a workflow, whether it is managing metadata or any other kind, you often have to reinvent the wheel—at least for some of the functionality. You should aim to recycle some components or applications that you have used before or tools that are built and maintained by other third parties where you can. They will usually require alteration, enhancement or some kind of glue-ware to augment or integrate them with your system.

Essentially, you need to build the overall structure of your system from scratch and gradually incorporate those reusable components one at a time. The components you can work with are getting larger and more capable and it is becoming easier to build workflows.
