Custom Designers

What exactly is a custom designer? In the .NET Framework, a designer is an object (that is, an instantiated class) that is associated with a component at design time. The designer host allows the designer object to change the behavior of the component during the design process.

Design-time tasks include such things as displaying our component or control in the Toolbox, displaying a component on a design surface, showing properties and events in a property browser, and generating serialization code. In the .NET Framework, all of the work to handle this design-time support is not delegated to a design environment such as Visual Studio .NET but is instead enabled through a rich built-in design-time architecture.
