Building Extender Controls

In Chapter 3, we examined the ErrorProvider, ToolTip, and HelpProvider extender controls. In this chapter, we’ll build our own extender control that extends various validation properties of any text box on a form. We could extend this validation to all types of controls, such as list boxes, combo boxes, and so on, but for this example, we’ll limit the validation to text box controls so that we can focus on the code. You’ll be able to call on the techniques you learn in building this simple extender control when you move on to creating more advanced controls.
