Chapter 4. Leadership Competencies

After surveying your organization's strategy, identifying the challenges to implementing it, and exploring their leadership implications, you can start to identify a coherent set of leadership competencies. These skills describe in behavioral terms what your leaders will need to do to address those challenges. As with the other parts of the DLT approach, there are organizational and individual levels to competencies. This chapter focuses on competencies for individual leader development. Keep in mind that individual competencies are most meaningful and have the most impact when they are aligned with the organization's strategic context.
