5.1. FUNDAMENTALS OF GAP ANALYSIS

The term gap analysis refers to a comparison between a current state and a desired state. In the context of developing leadership talent, the purpose of a gap analysis is to determine your organization's and its leadership's performance against the set of competencies that you have developed or verified. A DLT gap analysis (see Figure 5.1) examines the current state (determine the skills, knowledge, and abilities of your organization and its leaders) and the desired or future state (identify the necessary conditions for organizational and individual leader success).
