6.3. DEVELOPMENTAL JOB ASSIGNMENTS

Training workshops, business classes, and other classroom-related development opportunities are helpful, but it is experience that provides the greatest opportunity for developing leadership talent. CCL's expansive research and extensive experience in this area shows that:

  • People learn best from practical experience on and off the job.

  • Effective leaders continue to develop their skills and to expand the variety of those skills throughout their careers.

  • The greater the variety of experiences, the greater the likelihood of developing a broad range of skills.
