Chapter 8. Leadership by Delegating Tasks and Responsibilities

GOALS

  • recognize the limitations of the “lone wolf” leader

  • grasp four aspects of leadership that can be shared advantageously

  • practice delegation in a way that strengthens the abilities and motivation of group members

No leader “does it alone”—at least for long. We all depend on others for their ideas, help, and encouragement. This chapter focuses on productive ways not only to distribute work responsibilities to the members of a work team but also to motivate them to accomplish those tasks.
