Building Capabilities

Overview

Capabilities are critical to driving and developing resources. They, too, fill up and drain away, and they matter because they determine how effectively your organization is able to build, develop, and retain resources. A more capable organization will be able to build resources faster, better, and cheaper than a less capable organization and hold resource losses to a lower rate.

In this final chapter we look at how to build capabilities and explain the following:

  • what capabilities are and how they affect performance
  • how to develop capabilities so that you establish a learning organization where people are flexible, adaptable, and successful
