Chapter 12

Security

Eugene Vasserman,    Kansas State University

Historically, system security has received little attention in embedded systems. Now embedded systems play a huge role in the operation of our modern world; many of these devices expose their presence on the Internet or through other means. Security in embedded devices is a daunting task - the challenging problem of security is compounded by resource limits which are far more restrictive in embedded systems than in desktop systems.

Security is defined according to the application. This chapter points to aspects of those applications and their security concerns.
