Chapter 5. Building a Real Desktop App

You’ve seen how Electron works, including its lifecycle and how to make use of multiple integrations on different desktop platforms, allowing you to build truly native applications.

You now have the prerequisites necessary to build a real desktop application, which we will do in this chapter. All of the code from this chapter can be found on GitHub at github.com/adam-lynch/developing-an-electron-edge/tree/master/05-BuildingARealDesktopApp.

Initializing the project

Let’s build an editor that can edit Markdown files and save them to the filesystem. Let’s begin by creating a new Electron project. Run this in a new folder:

npm init
npm install --save electron-prebuilt

Now add a start script to package.json ...
