Chapter 1. Introducing gulp

gulp is an open source, extensible, powerful, and efficient file manipulation tool, marketed as a streaming build system, and built on Node.js (Node). Build tools are commonly used to automate repetitive tasks, but developers are pushing that boundary as we’ll see shortly. gulp is but one of a handful of this class of automation tool; the most notable being Grunt, but the gap is narrowing rapidly, as developers are drawn to gulp’s simple API and fast execution.
