Having identified the design challenge (problem or opportunity), we have a number of idea-generating models available to us that are not mutually exclusive. We may need to make use of one of them, or we may use several jointly to define a more complete idea. Once this idea has been identified and agreed upon by the team, we've reached the stage where this intangible concept can be transformed into a tangible model known as the prototype, which we can then begin to develop. No universal manual exists for prototype formation, as each concept will have its own idiosyncratic nature. If our execution is to be viable, we must wholly understand the prototype objective (function), plus have access to suitable tools.
