16. Validation of the Design against the Requirements

If you have followed the guidelines provided in the previous chapters, your network should, ideally, meet the full range of requirements. But is it, in fact, capable of doing everything that you intended? Does it fall short in some area, perhaps because of complex interdependencies in the design? Conversely, have you inadvertently “gold plated” other portions of the design, adding needless cost?

This chapter describes quantitative techniques that can be applied to validate the design when it is already at an advanced state, and also to tune it. Some of these techniques may also be useful earlier in the design process.
