4.6. ACKNOWLEDGE SUCCESS

Leave learners with a warm feeling and a sweet taste upon successfully completing the course.

4.6.1. Congratulations page

At the end of the course, clearly signal the end and motivate learners to continue learning. Congratulate them and let them print out a diploma.

In your page of congratulations:

  • Congratulate the learner.

  • Confirm successful completion.

  • Refer the student to post-class resources or activities.

  • Invite the student to join the electronic alumni association.

  • Invite the learner to print out a diploma.

Socrates gave no diplomas or degrees, and would have subjected any disciple who demanded one to a disconcerting catechism on the nature of true knowledge.

—G. M. Trevelyan

4.6.2. Diploma

At the end of the course, let the learner display and print out a diploma or certificate of completion. Style it something like this.

Be careful not to imply that this diploma has more value as an educational credential than it does.
