Part III. Searching

Changing from a passive site visitor to an active user is as simple as shifting the goal from browsing to searching. And searching, as we all know, is one of the most basic and important tasks we can perform online. Google has taught us that everything we can possibly imagine can be found in seconds by a good search engine.

Of course, not all search engines can be as good as Google. In fact, many of them do a horrible job of providing access to information. This is not necessarily because the algorithms used to run searches are terrible—sometimes they’re quite good.
