Half my job is about pointing out the obvious, but once in a while, something hits me that is so obvious, apparently even I can’t see it.
One of these lightning bolts came while I was working on a usability review for a client.
I found myself trying very hard to explain, with the written word, that an input field in a form wasn’t doing a good job of explaining to users that it had a character limit. Only 50 characters could be entered into the field, but nothing explained this fact, and when I reached the character limit, new characters simply stopped appearing.
