Learning Curves

Learning curves, also called experience curves, are closely related to accommodating design changes; however, the scope of learning curves is generally far broader. Learning curves take into account all aspects of the product, its operation, maintenance, processing, and essentially all cost elements that can be tied to the product. Some products experience learning curves on the order of 70%, whereas the learning curve for products associated with very mature industries can be far more modest at about 95%.
