2.1 Introduction

Before starting the process of design, we need to understand what it is we are trying to achieve.

It is useless to say “I want to make as much money as possible” – although this may be true, it does not provide any way to approach the problem. It is similar to saying “I want to get a good job”. Of course you do, but the way to get one is firstly to define what you mean by a good job and, secondly, to build a plan to help you get the skills you need to get the job.
