Chapter 9

The Mixed Model

Chapter 8 described three pure types of portfolio strategies and organization for which there is a lot of research evidence. In reality, there is a large variety of hybrids that combine these pure types. Many of them could be positioned between the related diversification strategy and a conglomerate. We call these hybrids the mixed model. They are mixed because they have some attributes of the related model and some attributes of the conglomerate model. The chapter describes how this hybrid came about and what the organization design or Star Model for this portfolio strategy looks like.
