Selecting Hardware Rack Equipment for FijiNet

To hold the hardware, we select a Sun rack. It is a telco-grade, universal 19-inch rack that is predominantly used in data centers for service providers.

The rack can have fan trays on top and bottom of the rack to provide air circulation in and out of the rack. Front and back panels allow better air ventilation. The rack has dual circuit breakers for connections to two different power distribution units. The dual breakers ensure that power failure from one power distribution unit does not affect servers on the rack. Sun racks came in different heights. For FijiNet, the shorter 60-inch high rack would work, but for future scalability, we choose the industry-standard 72-inch high rack.
