System Cooling

Data center equipment must be operated within a specific temperature range. When cooling is not available in the data center, the only option is to shut down all equipment, since high temperatures can trigger irreversible damage to electronic components. Newer systems and devices generate more heat because they operate at faster clock speeds. Plan to have extra air conditioning units to handle any additional heat output.

Systems with higher availability requirements should have standby or portable air conditioning units on hand to avoid an entire data center shutdown for times when the cooling infrastructure is unavailable.
