It's not that there are no theories of leadership around. There are theories of managerial leadership, from the classic statements of organization theorists such as Fayol ([1916] 1949), Gulick, and Urwick (Gulick and Urwick, 1937) to the sophisticated contemporary ideas of Bennis (Bennis and Nanus, 1985) and Drucker (1966).
