Fulfillment

Fulfillment is law #13 and it states: The interface will provide a satisfying user experience.

Human Factors

Part of usability is user acceptance, and part of user acceptance is the experience of satisfaction. When users believe and feel that the system allows them to do their work in a productive, useful way, with a minimum of work and hassle, then users feel fulfilled and will rate the experience as satisfying. Candace Kamm of AT&T Labs, interviewed in Chapter 5, says that when speech interfaces have value added and when they are both useful and fun, that is when the technology is working best.

Technology Considerations and Implications

For an interface to provide fulfillment and add value, it must do three things. It must offer a better way to do a task than the current alternatives; it must match the way users do their work; and it must perform basic tasks efficiently and simply.
