Acknowledgements

When Terri Hudson, our editor at John Wiley & Sons suggested we do this book we knew it would take a lot of work and research and we were right. But we had help along the way.

So here is our list of acknowledgements and thank yous. Thanks first to Terri for continuing to think of us and for being a visionary editor who keeps at least a year ahead of what people need to/want to read in our field. Our day-to-day editor was Gerrie Cho. She kept us on task and organized. Without her help every day for months we wouldn't have met our deadlines.

Thanks to the experts we interview in the book: Sharon Oviatt, Kate Dobroth, Ahmed Reza, John Karat, Nicole Yankelovich, and Candace Kamm. Their ideas, insight, and previous writings helped us grow in our knowledge and assisted in our synthesizing the information. Thanks to all of our clients who always keep us thinking and add to our experience bank from which we can draw for ideas and examples.

Sally Yeo gave us advice on everything from layout to content to wording. She also did the excellent indexing. Michael Bryant gave “sound advice!” Judy Spreng was our layout guru. Marge Sumner was our copyeditor, and improved our writing significantly. Linda Rothenberger created many of our graphics, started our project Web site, and kept it up to date. She was also an excellent proofreader. Ted Goff provided our wonderful cartoons.

Special thanks go to our families, Lisa, Peter, Guthrie and Maisie, for putting up with very long nights, ...
