CHAPTER FOURUSING FOCUS GROUPS IN THE SURVEY RESEARCH PROCESS

Chapter 2 introduced the concept of focus groups as an information-gathering technique in sample survey research. Focus groups are invaluable in this regard and are also used significantly in debriefing surveys. That is, it is possible that survey results may surprise researchers and that the reasons for results may not be entirely clear. Focus groups can serve to help inform the results regarding issues that the questionnaire itself did not or could not address, along with their role in gathering information prior to the survey.
