It’s for the same reason that my neighbor makes his kids watch those TV shows where teenagers videotape themselves suffering hideous injuries while trying to skateboard down a set of stairs. If you know the possible disasters, you will work diligently to avoid them. “Does it look like that hurts? Yes, it does. So don’t do that.”
Whenever you take on a large project or responsibility, you have the opportunity to shine, to really show what you can do. It could be your finest hour. It could also be an opportunity for abject disaster. There, now wasn’t that a happy thought?
