Summary

The goal of this chapter has been to demystify design by reducing it to eight simple, easily remembered principles that apply to everything you’re likely to work on: advertisements, books, e-books, brochures, business cards, newsletters, and postcards.

Throughout the rest of this book, you’ll learn the specific commands to apply in Microsoft Publisher to incorporate these eight principles into your marketing messages.

In the next chapter, we’ll explore the message itself—the “meat and potatoes” of your marketing materials. As you saw in Chapter 1, “Using Design to Gain a Competitive Edge,” graphic design cannot substitute for a lack of a meaningful message.
