Loss Networks

Abstract

Loss networks are traditional telecommunication networks where a call is lost whenever there are insufficient resources along a route at the time of call set-up. Many methods for analysis and design of such networks can—directly or generalized—be used for more advanced networks as well.

An important class of methods are fixed-point approximations. These are used to estimate the end-to-end blocking rates in a network, and can be formulated under very general conditions.

Assuming that a network topology exists, we use fixed-point approximation together with Moe’s principle for resource allocation.
