Chapter 4. Management of Product Development Cycle-Time

Before we get into the mechanics and details of product development processes in the next few chapters, we need to set the stage for how to act as program and project managers in a Design For Six Sigma context.

This book is structured around three components that are critical to successful product development (see Figure 4-1):

  1. Disciplined use of a well-structured product development process
  2. Rigorous application of a balanced portfolio of tools and best practices
  3. Detailed use of project management methods within and across the phases of a product development process
