Soon I will ask you to stop reading and notice what surrounds you. I want you to search for evidence that you (yes, you!) are a designer of emotions.

In fact, I’m betting you have lots of experience designing for this purpose, more than you realize. What surrounds you reflects choices you’ve made, often intuitively, to achieve emotional outcomes. Of course, I might be wrong, but let’s find out.

Please take my 60-second challenge: Find three ways you’ve crafted your environment to influence emotions.

Here are some tips:

• Consider the objects around you (pictures of loved ones?)

• Notice what you’re hearing (music?)

• Look over what you’re wearing (jewelry?)

Are you ready for my challenge? ...
