6.1 Overview

This section focuses on creating an understanding of a critical topic known as service assurance. The importance of analyzing key metrics and creating a baseline for measuring QoS and application performance is the objective of this chapter. This chapter does not focus on specific tools and software for achieving the same; those are addressed in Chapter 13, “Performance Monitoring and Measurement.” Furthermore, this chapter will help you identify some of the key requirements to look for in a tool or software that is to be used for service assurance.
