Quality of Service for IP Mobile Networks

5.1 Overview

This chapter explores the quality-of-service (QoS) framework required for mobile networks over an NGN infrastructure.

There is no question that the advent of mobile broadband speeds and native IP communications for voice and data, courtesy of third-generation (3G) technology, are some of the important drivers for the NGN story among providers. Developments in WiMAX, often referred to as fourth generation, or 4G, are further fuelling the converged NGN vision.
