Three Leadership Styles

THERE ARE three leadership styles that have been analyzed to determine the most effective style for a leader in a dynamic situation where maximum performance is expected of each person.

The Autocratic Style

The first leadership style is the old-school, military, dictatorial, authoritarian type. Autocratic managers are demanding, inflexible, and insistent on being the boss. They want to be obeyed and respected. They say, “It is my way or the highway.” They employ stern disapproval, criticism, and exacting standards to get people to do what they want, on budget and on schedule.
