During the degunking process, you’ll be encouraged to upgrade the software on your machine and patch up the programs you use most often. This can benefit you in two ways. First, it reduces exposure to bugs that could crash the program. Crashes are often indications of the need for degunking, but they can also contribute to adding more gunk. Second, it reduces exposure to viruses and security problems (leaks). If your software isn’t fully up to date, nasty viruses can get into your machine and attack your computer when you least expect it. Viruses and security leaks are the bane of diligent degunkers.
