Denial of service is a concept that pre-dates information technology. In the past, for example, people used to cut the rope attached to the bucket or cut holes in the bucket so that other people could not get water from the well. It’s quite likely that these activities continue today in areas served by well water.
The case study that follows discusses a situation in which a company found itself the target of an electronic denial-of-service (DoS) attack from unknown sources and describes the steps involved in resolving the situation.
