Chapter 2. Home Architecture

In our society, having a second home is a mark of wealth. We often work hard and save money so that someday we can afford a second home in the mountains, or on a beach, or possibly in a resort city, or best of all, in Las Vegas.

In IT, there is the concept of a dual-homed host, in which a single host machine has two network addresses—placing it simultaneously on two different networks. Yes, this does somewhat describe a router. A router, however, is not a host, and a router has software specifically designed to allow it to serve as a checkpoint to control the flow of traffic among multiple networks.
